besides what paul suggested (although i am not a fan of one-line
patches due to their overhead for everyone) we have also a list of
small tasks for newbies in our wiki:

Of course testing boards is also useful. Maybe we can also come up with
more and/or discuss the existing or your own ideas on IRC (#flashrom on
irc.freenode.net).
